Summer Camp at Helping Hands Center in Columbus
Summer CAMP at HHC is a great way to extend the important learning done throughout the school year in a fun and engaging camp format. (See flyer at: 2013 flyer) Many exciting activities are planned and each group participates in a unique blend of fun-themed related activities. There is a focus on continued academic development blended with socialization, play skills and making friends. Small group Music Therapy is included in the cost and will be scheduled during camp hours as will other regular therapies as the schedule permits.

Kasich Pledges $5M for Kids Mental Health Crisis Services
01/09/2013: Kasich approved $5 million to develop crisis intervention programs for children with mental illnesses from the Office of Health Transformation's Innovation Fund. The administration created the fund to support special projects that match goals for care improvement and modernization, to be paid for with bonus money Ohio received for beating federal benchmarks under the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act. Attorney General Mike DeWine : Child Safety Press Conference
12-10-2012. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine releases findings on the condition of the child welfare and foster care system in Ohio. The findings come as a result of eight child safety summits held by the Attorney General that gave foster parents, former foster children, and representatives of children's services agencies the chance to speak about their perspectives.The Attorney General outlines several specific issues of concern that resulted from the summits. A plan of action to address those concerns, including the formation of a newly established foster care advisory group, is announced. Streaming Video

A short guide for parents who suspect their child has autism is now available from the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence (OCALI). The guide provides information on the types of evaluations needed, sources of funding for obtaining evaluations, lists free information resources, identifies services that may be available for their child, and offers a guide for maintaining medical, educational records for their child. The guide was developed in collaboration with the Autism Society of Ohio and funded in part by the Ohio Department of Education's Office for Exceptional Children. Talking to Your Children about Violence and Tragedy
In the wake of the tragic shootings in Newtown, CT, and elsewhere around the nation, Jim Bates, EHE family wellness faculty with OSU Extension Family and Consumer Sciences, has collected resources online for you to use and share.Tragedies like the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT (Dec 2012) evoke many emotions—sadness, helplessness, anger, confusion, and anxiety. Children may wonder if their home, school, and community are safe, although they may not necessarily verbalize their concerns. Parents and caregivers can help children understand these concerns by allowing them to ask questions and by responding with accurate information appropriate to the child’s age. It is important that parents and caregivers reinforce to very young children the idea that they will do everything possible to keep them safe. Children should be reminded that school and community leaders are also working to keep their community safe. HTML
